Between 382 and 405 A.D., St. Jerome translated the Bible into Latin from the original languages. He strove not only for accuracy, but simplicity. The result was the Latin Vulgate, a version of the Bible that could be read and understood by those who knew the “common Latin” which was spoken by the people of the time. Because of this, the Latin of the Vulgate provides excellent translation practice for Latin students who have completed a study of the Latin grammar.
Prerequisites: Selections from the Vulgate is a standalone course meant to be taken after one’s study of Latin grammar. We would recommend either completion of the Memoria Press Forms Series of Henle Latin I first.
Memoria Press designs their award-winning Latin programs in order to teach students to master the Latin grammar. Our courses feature a step-by-step process that brings out the logical and systematic nature of the classical language.
In studying with our Curriculum, your student will gain an academic vocabulary and mastery of English grammar. They will also develop the critical thinking skills that come from the study of a complex, inflected grammar.
