The Princess and Curdie

One day Curdie meets Irene’s mysterious and ageless great-great-grandmother who sends him on an important mission, equipping him with a unique form of discernment and an invaluable, though at first repulsive, companion. But the old woman never told Curdie the details of the mission, only where to begin.

Led to the princess and her king-papa and joined by a menagerie of fantastical creatures, Curdie’s mission unfolds step by step. A sinister plot of the king’s formerly trusted advisors comes to light and Curdie is the only one in a position to stop it.

George MacDonald (1824-1905) was a Scottish author, poet, and Christian Congregationalist minister. He became a pioneering figure in modern fantasy literature. George MacDonald’s imaginative storytelling and deeply Christian themes profoundly influenced the literary world. C. S. Lewis regarded MacDonald as his “master,” and J. R. R. Tolkien–who read the Princess stories to his children–found literary inspiration in MacDonald’s works.
