Taking the form of a dialogue between Socrates, Gorgias, Polus and Callicles, Gorgias debates perennial questions about the nature of government and those who aspire to public office. Are high moral standards essential or should we give our preference to the pragmatist who gets things done or negotiates successfully? Should individuals be motivated by a desire for personal power and prestige, or genuine concern for the moral betterment of the citizens? These questions go to the heart of Athenian democratic principles and are more relevant than ever in today's political climate.1 GradeSku: 9780140449044

Charlotte Mason recommended that each student use a gridded notebook for written work during math lessons. You will need a gridded math notebook for each student working through the books in The Charlotte Mason Elementary Arithmetic Series. Using a gridded notebook for math
- Keeps numerals neat and legible by allotting one number per grid square.
- Encourages a habit of precision and accuracy whether in beginning addition or long division. Since the squares in the grid are aligned, place value can easily be seen and checked.
- Creates a neat and concise record of the math concepts your child learned each year.
Math Notebook Features
The printed notebooks- Contain 50 pages of grid paper, so you have plenty to work with but they don’t look overwhelming;
- Lie flat for easy use whether your student is left-handed or right-handed;
- Are available in three sizes of grid square—¾″, ½″, and ¼″—so you can select the size that best fits your student’s writing.
Choosing a Grid Size
The emphasis in math lessons should be on math concepts, not handwriting. Yes, expect neatness and precision in keeping with Charlotte Mason’s emphasis on good habits, but be careful that the handwriting does not overshadow the math focus. During math lessons your child should not have to concentrate as much effort on handwriting as on thinking mathematically. Therefore, choose a grid size that will fit your child’s natural handwriting best. If he usually writes quite small, a smaller grid should not be a hindrance or obstacle in math lessons. If he writes larger, allow him to use a larger grid size for math lessons. General Recommendations ¾″ grid size for grades 1–2 ½″ grid size for grades 3–6 ¼″ grid size for grades 7–126 GradesSku: 9781616344252Gridded Math Notebook 1/4″

Regarded as the preeminent prose satirist in the English language, Jonathan Swift (1667–1745) intended this masterpiece, as he once wrote Alexander Pope, to "vex the world rather than divert it." Savagely ironic, it portrays man as foolish at best, and at worst, not much more than an ape. The direct and unadorned narrative describes four remarkable journies of ship's surgeon Lemuel Gulliver, among them, one to the land of Lilliput, where six-inch-high inhabitants bicker over trivialities; and another to Brobdingnag, a land where giants reduce man to insignificance. Written with disarming simplicity and careful attention to detail, this classic is diverse in its appeal: for children, it remains an enchanting fantasy. For adults, it is a witty parody of political life in Swift's time and a scathing send-up of manners and morals in 18th-century England. Reprint of the revised 1735 edition.1 GradeSku: 9780486292731

SaleHamlet is the longest of Shakespeare's plays and is perhaps his finest. After speaking with the specter of his murdered father, Prince Hamlet of Denmark embarks upon a quest for vengeance that leads him to feign madness. Though Hamlet is driven by the desire to avenge his father, when he discovers that his uncle, Claudius, is the murderer he struggles with the decision to kill him. Hamlet's hesitance ultimately leads to tragedy. Through the story of the introspective prince of Denmark, Hamlet leads the reader to consider important philosophical and ethical issues and to contemplate the age-old question, “To be or not to be?” The Hamlet Set provides students and educators with all the resources they need to effectively study this classic by William Shakespeare.
