Language Arts
Students begin English grammar with the parts of speech, as well as continue to progress in spelling, capitalization, punctuation, and English usage guidelines using the literary passages presented in Spelling Wisdom, Book 2, and the guided discovery lessons in Using Language Well, Book 2. The first half of these books is covered in grade 5, the rest is completed in grade 6. Written narration is continued with increasing expectations, encouraging your student to apply the English usage and mechanics guidelines and grammar he has learned. Rubrics and further instructions are provided in the Using Language Well, Book 2, Teacher Guide and Answer Key to help with this process.Science
Use any of our SCM living science courses—such as Learning about Birds with Thornton Burgess or Jack’s Insects and its corresponding narration notebook—and feel free to combine your children in grades 1–6. These plans will remind you when to do the next science lesson and keep you moving at an enjoyable pace, with some catch-up days included. Journaling a Year in Nature is recommended for nature study.Math & Typing

Introduction to Composition Teacher Sample The Introduction to Composition Teacher Key contains the answers to the Introduction to Composition Student Guide. Recommended for Grades 3-4. Memoria's Introduction to Composition course focuses on the concepts of narration, outlining, summarizing, dictation, and copywork. Reading passages are taken from Farmer Boy, Charlotte’s Web, and The Moffats (must be purchased separately). Students are given guided questions to help them outline and then formulate a summary of the passage they have read. After giving an oral summary of their reading, their written work consists of a written summary and copying a couple of sentences from dictation. The goal of this first writing course is to help students become more proficient in listening and writing skills, a great preparation for the Memoria Press writing program Classical Composition. Introduction to Composition is composed of 30 lessons plus 10 supplemental lessons (sentences, letter writing, and book reports).4 GradesSku: 9781615388509

A classic living science book used by Charlotte Mason!
Follow Jack and Maggie into the fascinating world of insects! When Jack receives a book for his birthday, he and his sister suddenly find themselves inside it, living the natural history. Learn from their adventures as they question a butterfly, narrate to a spider, go underground with a cicada, anger a wasp, attend a katydid concert, hear a candle fly’s court case, go airborne with some fireflies, sail with a raft-spider, and more. This unique book, used in Charlotte Mason’s PNEU schools, has been out of print and almost impossible to find. We are pleased to bring this valuable resource back into circulation for another generation to enjoy.- Charlotte Mason Recommended—Originally published in 1910, Jack’s Insects is a classic living science book that Charlotte Mason used in her schools. Records indicate that she recommended it for children in Form II (grades 4–6).
- Living Science—In true Charlotte Mason style, fascinating facts about insects are couched in a living story. You’ll learn about butterflies, caterpillars, plague locusts, carding bees, cicadas, katydids, and more, and from the (often opinionated) insects themselves. (Oh, yes, these insects are quite the characters!)
- Original Illustrations—J. A. Shepherd created more than forty-four pen and ink drawings to illustrate the story of Jack’s Insects. We have tried to preserve the integrity of these original illustrations, presenting them as they appeared in the early 1900’s edition, including their hand-drawn border lines.
